Obama Backed Violent Pro-Shari'a Politician in Kenya|
This is a complex story, but I urge everyone who cares about the current massacre in Nairobi to follow the thread of this tale ....
Obama and his proclaimed ally Odinga
Researching the Nairobi Mall Massacre, I found to my amazement that Barack Hussein Obama, aka the Lightworker and Obamessiah, personally intervened in Kenyan politics in an attempt to help a violent Kenyan politician, Raila Odinga, win the Kenyan presidential elections in 2007 and 2013. Obama's aid to Odinga included personal appearances by first Senator and then President Obama, and the contribution of hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash from private funds.
The reason why this is significant is that Odinga, though raised Anglican and purportedly a born-again Christian, is strongly pro-Muslim. He campaigned on a platform which included the imposition of shari'a in Kenya and the severing of all Kenyan ties to Israel. As described by Pamela Geller in "Obama Pushed/Bankrolled/Implements Sharia Law in New Constitution in Kenya, Non-Muslim Country," Aug 7th 2010 from Atlas Shrugged:
Odinga signed, on August 29th 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding with Sheikh Abdullah Abdi, Chairman of the National Muslim Leaders' Forum, in which Odinga promised -- in a majority-Christian State -- to:
“within six months” to “rewrite the Constitution of Kenya to recognize Sharia as the only true law sanctioned by the Holy Quran for Muslim declared regions.” Odinga, according to the Memorandum, would recognize “Islam as the only true religion” and give Islamic leaders an “oversight role to monitor activities of ALL other religions.” Christian preaching, alcohol and pork would be banned.
Odinga claimed that the Memorandum was forged. Keep on reading to find out why Odinga was almost-certainly lying.
Fortunately for Kenya, President Kibaki was re-elected in 2007. Odinga's response to this?
Amid widespread charges that Kibaki had stolen the election, Odinga supporters staged bloody reprisals, killing 700 and displacing 250,000 within a month after the election. By the middle of February 2008, just over six weeks after the election, the death toll had risen to 1,500, with 500,000 homeless. 200 people were burned alive when Odinga supporters torched a church in which they had taken refuge.
Among the atrocities committed by Odinga's supporters, was gang rape, including the gang-rape of little children. According to Adrian Bloomfield of the Telegraph:
Hundreds of women and children, including boys as young as five, have been gang-raped in a wave of sexual violence that has swept Kenya in the aftermath of last week's disputed presidential election.
(bolded emphasis mine).
Wow ... you know, if Obama had a son, that could have been ...
... but I digress.
Most were members of President Mwai Kibaki's Kikuyu tribe, attacked in Nairobi's slums by other ethnic groups who support Raila Odinga, his Luo challenger.
The mobs had smashed their way into their homes, the women told doctors. Attacking everyone they found inside with machetes and clubs, the youths raped them in front of their husbands, some of whom were later killed.
Aid workers said they had received reports of similar attacks across the country, although no statistics are available.President Kibaki made a serious error in response to this crisis:
... in an attempt to quell the rioting and murder, Kibaki named Odinga prime minister – in which role Odinga realized a longstanding dream of his friend, supporter, and possible relative Barack Obama: in February 2009, he met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Coming back from this meeting, Prime Minister Odinga approved a "controversial" new Constitution that partially-implemented Shari'a law in Kenya, in particular legalizing Muslim khadi courts.
In December 2010, Prime Minister Odinga ordered "a nationwide crackdown on homosexuals in Kenya":
Mr Odinga on Sunday said that police should arrest anyone found engaging in such behaviours and take appropriate legal action against them.
"We will not tolerate such behaviours in the country. The constitution is very clear on this issue and men or women found engaging in homosexuality will not be spared," Mr Odinga said.
"Any man found engaging in sexual activities with another man should be arrested. Even women found engaging in sexual activities will be arrested," the premier warned....
"This [homosexual] kind of behaviours will not be tolerated in this country. Men or women found engaging in those acts deserve to be arrested and will be arrested," he told the crowd....
Presumably the arrested did not include Odinga's own supporters, who were merely-engaging in a manly sort of amusement by gang-raping five-year-old boys.
In April 2013, Odinga lost a second Presidential election -- this time to Uhuru Kenyatta -- and flew to South Africa to avoid attending the inauguration. This loss also meant the end of Odinga's term as Prime Minister.
Despite -- or perhaps because of -- the new pro-Muslim constitution, the Muslim violence in Kenya has only escalated , as documented in "Kenya's Killing Fields," a series of articles posted by Pamela Geller. There has been a steady stream of Muslim terrorist attacks against Kenya, including repeated incidents of grenades being chucked into civilian crowds.
And so we arrive at the present atrocity. According to Haaretz, "Death toll reaches 68: Assault to end Kenya mall siege has begun, official says":
Kenyan security forces launched a "major" assault late Sunday on the upscale Nairobi mall where an unknown number of hostages are being held by al-Qaida-linked militants, in an operation officials said would end the two-day standoff that had already killed 68 people.
Somalia's al-Qaida-linked rebel group, al-Shabab, claimed responsibility for the attack that specifically targeted non-Muslims. The attackers included some women.
Al-Shabab, an arm of Al Qaeda says their motive for the attack was ... but who cares what they said? The true motive for the attack is that al-Shabab likes to kill people, because they are evil, and the only way to prevent such future attacks is to kill as many members of Al-Shabab as possible. And it's best that we ignore Terrorist claims about their motives, because focusing on these only tempts us to yield, and distracts us from the absolute necessity that the Terrorists be destroyed.
Obama has reportedly phoned President Kenyatta to "express condolences" for the attack. The Israelis have provided more meanngful support
An Israeli security source said earlier Sunday that Israeli advisers were helping Kenya formulate a strategy to end the siege at the upscale shopping center, which is partly owned by Israelis.
"There are Israeli advisers helping with the negotiating strategy, but no Israelis involved in any imminent storming operation," said the source, who declined to be identified.
The source said only a "handful" of Israelis, "purely in an advisory role," were on scene at the mall, which has several Israeli-owned outlets and is frequented by expatriates and Kenyans.
As I type this, the Kenyan military is storming the Westgate Shopping Mall, killing the last of the Terrorists within, and restoring order. We still don't know how many hostages have been killed.
Let us mourn the dead, and hope that the Kenyan Army exacts such a revenge for this on Somalia that the Somalians will long rue the day they decided to murder Kenyan civilians. And let us also hope that this attack marks the beginning of the end of Rail Odinga's political career -- and of Kenyan toleration of Islam.

Why am I not surprised? (By Odinga or Obama.)

You trust Geller?
The MoU she bases her claims on was made public by Wikileaks. What she failed to mention is the accompanying analysis
Purported Memorandum of Understanding between Kenyan Presidential contender Raila Odinga and Kenyans Muslim leadership, NAMLEF. A likely fraud, denied by its purported authors.
Wikileaks constitutional analysis:
Most of the pledges couldn't be met by any presidential candidate as they are inherently unconstitutional and would mightily annoy the non-Muslim majority in Kenya.
A close reading of the purported "MOU" reveals that its pledges could not realistically have been expected to be met by the MOU's other purported party "The Leadership" of Muslims.
Wikileaks later got hold of what they think is the actual MoUhttp://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Kenyan_PM_Raila_Odinga_2007_secret_MoU_with_Muslim_leaders_and_Extraordinary_Rendition_in_East_Africa
It is very much unlike the Geller MoU.
You may or may not wish to take the above into consideration.Edited at 2013-09-22 09:28 pm (UTC)
I don’t know Geller from Adam’s off ox, but I do note that significant elements of the story are corroborated by Jihadwatch and Haaretz (see links in Our Host’s original post). Mr. Odinga certainly seems to have behaved as if one or another Islamist group had him in its back pocket.
As for Mr. Obama, his entire history in the conduct of foreign affairs could be roughly summarized as ‘always backing the worst horse in the stable’.
You trust Geller?
Generally speaking, yes. Is there some special reason why I shouldn't trust her? You've mentioned that a different version of the Memorandum may exist -- did you have any factual quarrel with any other statements in her articles?
What's more, though I used her "Kenya's Killing Fields" series as the main skeleton for my post, I also directly-referenced and quoted articles in Haaretz and the Telegraph.
As to your claim that the MoU quoted by Geller from the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya is false, it may be false. The EAoK could be lying -- but then so also could Odinga and Abdi.
Odinga is a politician whose movement murdered hundreds and drove out hundreds of thousands of Kenyans in a tantrum over losing the Presidential election, then accepted the Prime Ministership as part of an obviously extortionate deal in return for his implicit promise to cease this killing. He is thus by his own implicit admission a murderer, arsonist and rapist -- why should we trust him? As for Abdi, he is a fundamentalist Muslim leader, and one of the tenets of the Muslim jihad is that it is acceptable to lie to the infidels.
What's more, Odinga's behavior as Prime Minister is consistent with his having made such a deal. He did meet most of the pleges, whether they were unconstitutional or not (has it occurred to you that winning the Prime Ministership by starting a nationwide wave of murderous and vicious tribal riots is also probably against the Kenyan Constitution, or at least ordinary criminal law?). And he did "mightily annoy the non-Muslim majority in Kenya," which is probably why he LOST the 2013 election!
And even if the Memorandum were a complete fabrication by the Kenyan evangelicals, what about all the other things Odinga has done? Including sparking bloody riots in anger over losing the 2007 election, committing violent extortion to become Prime Minister, engaging in an insane persecution of Kenyan homosexuals, and deliberately snubbing the winner of the 2013 election (thus helping to destablize Kenyan democracy through failure to graciously concede)? Do all these crimes somehow magically become "un-facts" if the Memorandum was fabricated?
If, say, I told you that a certain neighborhood was unssafe because of four bloody crimes committed there in broad daylight and to the accompaniment of community non-cooperation with the police, and you found that one of these crimes actually happened a few blocks over, would you conclude that the other three crimes couldn't have happened there and hence it was perfectly safe for you to live in that neighborhood? Seriously, do you apply the same reasoning to your day-to-day life?
I've generally found that Geller's articles have been well researched; though a lot of people are put off by her strong anti-Islamic takeover message. Europeans in particular have not been happy about her delivering some very ugly truths, and have preferred to dismiss her speaking truths about Islam as hate speech. This form of burying head into the sand and pretending that the lies they choose to believe are true has lead to Geller and Robert Spencer to be banned from Britain.
You know, where a soldier was hacked up in broad daylight by Muslim extremists and there doesn't seem to be much of an impact?
With all the stacking up of atrocities committed daily by Islam, I don't really see how people are still able to pretend that the supposed 'Islamophobia' are 'lies' instead of being a rational fear as well as truth.

I recommend you consider the following links. I tend to trust both politifact and snopeshttp://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/kenya.asphttp://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/aug/20/jerome-corsi/obama-did-not-take-sides-in-kenya/
Based on the above there seems to have been only one visit by Senator Obama to Kenya, it happened in 2006 and he did not take sides.
The Haaretz and the Telegraph article have nothing to say about either any connection between Obama and Odinga or the supposed secret MoU. And yes, the attrocities committed during the riots were horrendous and as far as I can tell they were committed by Odinga's tribe.
That said, to me the Geller MoU reads like a current age Elders of Zion scroll. I'd recommend to consider it fake until you find solid proof for it. Instead you seem to think the onus to be on me to prove it fake. Funny approach.
Snopes and politifact both have marked and strong left-biases. Both of them are documented as having outright ignored indisputable facts, or fabricated facts that were blatantly discredited to support leftist agendas. Not claiming that Gellar is perfect by any stretch, but if we're looking for the straight dope, we need to keep looking.
In this case, snopes's allegations come up against the photo on the OP, which clearly shows Obama and Odinga, and direct text from a number of his speeches. While my 5 minutes of research didn't produce documentation of financial contributions, the evidence is that Snopes is once again massaging the facts to fit their narrative. When speaking in a country that is preparing for an election, an election where there is an incumbent on the ballot, saying:
“My own city of Chicago, Ill., has been the home of some of the most corrupt local politics in American history over the years, from patronage machines to questionable elections. Here in Kenya, there is a crisis, a crisis that’s robbing an honest people of the opportunities they fought for.”
Is accusing the incumbent of corruption. It is advocating quite clearly and indisputably for his defeat. To then come out and say "I didn't take sides" is a barefaced lie. For anyone to ignore the actual text of a speech and accept him at his word is for them to discredit themselves. Snopes therefore loses yet another piece of it's already failed credibility.

From Geller: " In an August 2006 campaign stop, "
From Obama Speeches
: "University of Nairobi"
Gotta run, will be back later.
That isn't exactly a refutation.
"It's more than just history and outside influences that explain why Kenya lags behind. Like many nations across this continent, where Kenya is failing is in its ability to create a government that is transparent and accountable. One that serves its people and is free from corruption."
"But while corruption is a problem we all share, here in Kenya it is a crisis - a crisis that's robbing an honest people of the opportunities they have fought for - the opportunity they deserve."
Even this, which gives a nod to the incumbent, dismissed their strides as " promising gestures"
"Among other things, this recognition resulted in the coalition that came to power in the December elections of 2002. This coalition succeeded by promising change, and their early gestures - the dismissal of the shaky judges, the renewed vigor of the investigation into the Goldenberg scandal, the calls for real disclosure of elected officials' personal wealth - were all promising.
But elections are not enough. In a true democracy, it is what happens between elections that is the true measure of how a government treats its people."
Preaching that there's a corruption crisis, all that talk of reform, all that talk of change... Essentially, there's no honest way to dispute that that was a campaign stop in opposition of Kibaki and support of Odinga.

My point was that the speech was not given at a pro-Odinga ralley. BTW, neither was the image posted by Jordan and Geller taken on such an occasion. It shows Obama speaking at Liverpool VCT
, leading by example in having Michelle and himself testet for HIV
. AIDS is a big stigma in Kenya and neither Kibaki or Odinga can be found anywhere on the NGO's site. I don't think you win popularity contests as a politician in Kenya by associating yourself with AIDS. I'll assume that the elegant cropping of Geller's version of the original photo
was merely done for unfortuate space restrictions and should in no way be seen as an attempt to hide the actual context of the photo.
I still understand the speech as aimed at corruption in general. It is very unfortunate for Kenya that the Kibaki administration — running on a anti-corruption ticket — was shaken by a massive corruption scandal in 2005
, which resulted in the suspension of US and German financial aid to anti-graft agencies.
The allegations went on to reinforce the increasingly widespread perception of Mr Kibaki and his inner circle as a nest of power-hungry corrupt leaders as bad as those under Mr Moi.
The new corruption crisis was sparked by a speech at a dinner party by the British high commissioner in Kenya, Sir Edward Clay.
He bemoaned what he described as the "massive looting" of public funds by senior officials of the Kibaki administration.
The UK envoy told his stunned audience that he had handed the Kenyan authorities a dossier of 20 dubious contracts and allegedly crooked procurement ventures - only six months after complaining that corrupt Kenyan ministers were "eating like gluttons" and "vomiting on the shoes of foreign donors".
Oh, and you may want to read coverage by CBS from 2006
. While I guess the bits most important to you will be that "Odinga's been at Obama's elbow here fairly often" and Obama was called a stooge for Odinga, you may not want to miss the bits on how Kenya's oldest newspaper had been raided and its copies burned, or how illegal "fees" taken from the CBS crew at the airport were suddenly returned after a complaint by Obama. No Sir, no corruption here.Edited at 2013-09-25 07:02 pm (UTC)
That's a lot of smoke, and some interesting points. But none of it actually addresses the central issue here. Which is that Obama has endorsed odinga in pretty direct ways. Pointing out the corruption exists doesn't change that. So ifthe odinga is terrorist affiliated, then we have yet another item to fit into a pattern of Obama acting in support of terrorist affiliated groups. Which is the claim being made, and which I have not seen refuted.

I absolutely trust Pamela Geller. She is one of the Brave Few, of the kind Breitbart was, a model investigative journalist and a fearless fighter against islamization.
I witness her battles against the mosque at Ground Zero, been to rallies and I know Pamela personally. Is there one person I will trust with information about islam atrocities -it's Pamela Geller.
I have to admit I found myself shaking my head after reading this. If indeed the mastermind of the Mall terrorist attack is this White, British, Female Convert who was married to one of the 7/7 bombers, then the British are even greater fools to have banned Geller and Spencer from speaking in England.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2429684/Kenya-mall-attack-anti-terror-police-believe-British-White-Widow-Samantha-Lewthwaite-massacre.htmlhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2429784/Has-British-White-Widow-killed-final-assault-Kenyan-shopping-mall-Officials-say-body-white-woman-terrorist-scene.html?ICO=most_read_module
Reading her background, she reminds me of Rachel Corrie. "I want to be special" ... even if other people die for it, it seems.
Shame that it's because of their selfishness that people like these are the ones who die. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2429864/Ross-Langdon-Architect-heavily-pregnant-partner-shot-dead-Kenyan-mall-massacre.html
Mr Langdon, who studied architecture at the University of Tasmania then the University of Sydney, worked for several companies before founding his own firm Regional Associates Ltd in May 2008.
Born and brought up in south-eastern Tasmania, his work included projects in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Harvard graduate Ms Yavuz was eight-and-a-half months pregnant at the time of her death.
The malaria specialist was working in Kenya for the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, which was founded by the former U.S president.
People who are living as their convictions demand, but it's clear whose convictions are more worthy and good.
One might point out that America has allied with nasty dictators before, to America's benefit. The reasons why this situation is different are:
(1) Odinga originally had no actual authority in Kenya. Obama went out of his way to support Odinga in 2007, when Odinga was simply an especially nasty factional leader. He has never actually achieved supreme power in Kenya, and is now farther away from it than he was before.
(2) Odinga is not pro-American. As far as I can see, his sympathies seem to lie with the Muslim fundamentalists. There is no American interest in promoting Odinga. In fact, the American interest would logically lie in opposing Odinga.
Yes, but Obama's father was a Luo, and so is Odinga.
Of course, it's also possible that they're related; but it's probably Obama trying to please his crazy family (in a stupid, counterproductive, immature way, of course).
Or more likely, Obama's self-image demanded at that time that he "fight the power" with his Luo brother, blah blah, whatever sounds romantic at the time.
